We feel like freakin’ geniuses!  Why?  For once we were right.  We predicted about 15 episodes ago that Suzaku and Lelouch would join forces and we were right.  Please ignore the fact that we were wrong about nearly everything else with Code Geass R2 and Macross Frontier :-P.

Story

We apologize for being late with this post dudes and dudettes.  Real life sometimes takes precedence over the enjoyment of anime.  We’re sure that you can relate.

Anyways now that the excuses are out of the way (did you buy them?), on to the battle. We liked what both shows were dishing out this week in terms of plot / story development, so this is looking like it will be a close battle this week.

Macross Frontier

  • Okay maybe it was just us, but didn’t it seem like that early on in the episode that Luca was asking Ranka to basically do a kamikaze performance in order to trap the varja?  But then she escaped with Brera with plenty of time to spare?  Wut up Wit Dat?

Kamikaze Karaoke - Yes or No?

  • Speaking of Brera, it looks like he stepped up his game.  Alto should take note. It seems more and more that we are heading for an Alto and Sheryl hookup.  Which is fine with us, because we are starting to get annoyed with Ranka after watching the last few episodes.
  • And speaking of hookups, we Didn’t think that Ranka would pick Brera and the Vajra over Alto but she did.  But this is kinda nonsensical - the Varja have killed many many people but Brera and Ranka are willing to risk their lives to save one?  The only explaination that we can come up with is that Ranka and Brera are part Vajra part Human and part idiots.

Is it us or does the Vajra look extra creepy here?

  • Commander Bad haircut is now apparently in charge but how he was able to complete his coup d’état after Ozuma and Catherine finding out his plans are mind boggling.  Call us dumb but if we uncover a coup d’état attempt, the first thing we would do  is send the evidence to the right people… like the guy targeted for assassination.
  • Considering this was the all Ranka episode we were expecting at least a goodbye kiss from Alto. Too bad for her Alto thinks girls have cooties.

Expecting more?  Your watching the wrong show then.

Code Geass

Overall Code Geass R2 21 had a climatic feel to it.  Kinda weird considering this is episode 21.

  • So we finally learned what the dillio is with the thought elevator and the sword.  Pretty epic if you ask us.  But that wasn’t the most important reveal of this episode.
  • The most important reveal has to be that Charles wasn’t really evil, just insane. He basically did what he did because he believed it was the only way to keep Lelouch and Nunnally safe.  This kinda of explains why he didn’t kill Lelouch at the end of R1.

  • The other big reveal is that Marianne wasn’t really dead. Nope she apparently has the mother of all Geass, the ability to transplant her soul into another person’s body.  How can you beat that?  This is an epic Geass for sure.

  • The one thing that we didn’t like about this episode was Lelouch’s reaction to seeing his Mama. He wasn’t shocked / traumatized enough.  His reaction should have been like a guy who goes to a bar and makes out with a hot girl all night long.  Only to find that that hot girl was really a tranny.
  • But we suppose that Lelouch couldn’t go into a coma because he had to foil his parents plan.  That was pretty dramatic if you ask us.  Your parents basically tell you that the reason they did everything was because they loved you and your sister and wanted to protect you from the evil VV. And then your like - not good enough, I’m gonna kill you know.  Question - does Lelouch move from Anti Hero to Hero after Episode 21?
  • You hear that sound? That’s the sound of us patting ourselves on the back.  You know who predicted that Lelouch and Suzaku would team up against Britannia - yep this girl and guy did.  This was for us the coolest part of Code Geass R2 ep 21, seeing Lelouch and Suzaku shock the world by teaming up.  And more surprising was Suzaku actually smiling?!

Winner: Code Geass R2 Ep 21

Action

Gotta give this one Macross.  Not so much by default, but because the mecha action was beautiful as usual.  The mini galaxy destroyer was awesome.  It looked like a black hole sucking a small planed into itself.  And Kira was giddy as a little school boy getting to see the frontier in its transformed state.  It looks totally awesome and he can’t get enough of it.

That’s not to say that Lelouch’s destruction of the sword in the thought elevator wasn’t good.  It was, but it was more emotional than a great action sequence.

Winner: Macross Frontier EP 21

Death and destruction never looked so pretty

Fangasmic

For those who are unaware this category basically measures how much enjoyment we received from watching a show.  And this week we are giving it to Geass.  When we sit back and think why we are giving it to Geass Geass, it’s because this show had a lot of reveals and answered a lot of questions we’ve had for the last 30 episodes.  So there was a few “Ah!… I see” moments for us while we watched.  This episode ranks in the top 5 code geass episodes for us.

Our favorite moment has to be the very end where Lelouch claims the throne with his new Knight of Zero- Suzaku by his side.

Winner: Code Geass R2 EP 21

um… why does Suzaku look so creepy here?

  1. Yes, but (the most obvious reason aside) Suzaku and Lelouch are only joining forces because it’s practically the end of the entire show…honestly, it would just be too much if this happened before.

And technically, they ARE Britannia now. :D

Good to know that you liked the episode. I do have some complaints, but I’m interested in seeing where it’s going next.

  2. Gawd ill be pissed if this is the end, then again I can’t see how they can continue (well) any longer…

  3. Good words.
