A little while ago we gave you our top 3 most re-watchable anime shows.  Now it’s time for the opposite list - it’s our top three most un re-watchable anime.  So we are talking about the anime series you’ve watched to completion but would not watch again even if you were paid $1000 to do so.  Now just because a series is UN-re-watchable doesn’t make it bad, but it could be.  It also could be un-re-watchable because it’s too mentally exhausting to re-watch or too intense.

Kanokon would be on our list but we never were able to get past the 3rd episode

So here is our list…

Kira’s Top 3

#3 - Gundam Seed Destiny

Everyone knows that I’m a big fan of Gundam Seed - it made my list of most rewatchable anime.  But what you may not know is that my passion for Gundam Seed is equally rivaled by my utter distain for the horrible, craptastic and lazy Gundam Seed Destiny.

Now the reason GSD is not #1 of my list of anime that I would not watch again even if you paid a $1000 is because of two factors.  First is because of the Strike Freedom.  Of all the mecha that exists in the world of Gundam, the Strike Freedom is my fav.  Hey what’s not to like, blue light wings and dragoons make a killer combination in my books.  The second reason is that GSD gave me more screen time for Lacus.  And Lacus is one of my fav female characters in anime.  I consider her the Anti Yoko Ono of the anime world.

Strike Freedom = Buying a bucket of KFC chicken and finding no hair

As for the reason why GSD is on this list…. Well the reason are too numerous to list. But here are a few reasons.

#A - I hate Shinn. My god, how much emo-ness can one boy have?  And how much can one boy screem like a little girl for.  STELLLLAAA!!!!!! I couldn’t stand hearing that again.

#B - Shinn exists. I think it was a cop out on part of the director of the series to have Shin as the protagonist of the first half of the series.  They should have made Shin evil from the start, and leave Athrun and Kira as the protagonist.  Watching GSD you get the sense that the tried to reset the clock by introducing Shin and having Athrun rejoin ZAFT. What the should have done is expanded to story or universe  with the same characters.  Like fast forward 10 years and have the crew face off against a new threat.

#C - The Pacing.  The Achilles heal for the series for sure.  You can go through 4 or 5 episodes without nothing meaningful happening at all.   The best example of the poor pacing happens in episode 48.   The series is near a close and the tension and war levels are raised.  The story is approaching the climax and then all the sudden the director decides to through in a pseudo-recap episode.  Let me get this straight, the third final episode of the series and you make it a filler / recap episode?  What the hell we’re they smoking?

Meet the Emo that destroyed GSD

#2 - Da Capo SS

Another sequal gone bad.  And it pains me to put this on the list because I really enjoyed the original Da Capo.  And watching Da Capo SS you really get the sense this should have been an OVA instead of the complete 26 episode season.

Prehaps the main reason this is number #2 on my list is because of the atrocious and agregious decision to replace Nemu with Aisia as the main female lead. Aisia is some winny witchy moe girl that I can’t stand.  Nemu = cute, Aisia = 2 month old cottage cheese.

Looking back on the series, I can’t even remember the justification for having Aisa in the story. It’s a complete waste of time in my opinion anyways.  The shows only saving grace is perhaps the ending.  A cliché ending for sure, but it was still nice to see the protagonist and Nemu end up together.

I can’t stomach watching this girl again for 20+ episodes

#1 - Dragonball Z

Yeah I know this will piss a lot of people off, but hear me out for a second.  291 - Do you what this number represents?  No it’s not the number STD’s Paris Hilton has (She has more).  291 is the number of episodes in the DBZ series.  So think about it this way.  If you say that each episode is an average of 25 minutes. Then it means that it would take you 121 hours to watch all the episodes (which doesn’t include the movies by the way).  Assuming you watched anime for about 7 hours a day (which means you’re a hikikimori) it would take you about 17 days to watch the series.

Now I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna waste 17 days of my life watching DBZ all over again.  Especially when you consider of the 291 episodes 200 of them are contain shirtless guys screaming and powering up.  Count me out.

Don’t get me wrong - DBZ is a classic, and was the gateway anime for many fans.  And is Funimations meal ticket, but you still couldn’t get me to sit through the entire season again.

Sure it awesome, but i couldn’t sit through the whole thing again

Asuna’s Top 3

#3 - Air

This one started out good. I thought okay another love story, but kinda different with this quirky girl, then it all went to hell in a hand basket. I mean there were some strange scenes with this mysterious girl. Then when she gets sick. Everything changes. I mean what’s with the guy turning into a crow, like what the hell is that crap. Then the whole flash back thing… way back in time, to try and figure out who this guy really is it didn’t clear anything up. I was so confused. It just got more and more confusing. Then the whole growing wing thing and going into the sky. It’s like whoa where the hell did that come from. You also never find out what really happens it leaves it open. Like a never ending type of ending.  I can’t be bothered to watch it again.

Asuna being confused = Not re-watchable

#2 - Kimikiss Pure Rouge

Watching this again may put me into a deep sleep. Main reasons begin it’s dull and predictable. Not an interesting anime. Sure it’s the typical childhood romance love story premise, but one of those most boring I have ever seen. The plot never progressed or if it did it was a slow as traffic in Toronto, plus nothing exciting or good ever happened. On top of all that the ending sucked, really sucked. Always knowing what’s gonna happen next makes for a very boring watch. A total waste of my precious time.

They should pay us for wasting 12 hours of our life

#1 - School Days

This is the most twisted anime I have ever watched. Very disturbing. There is absolutely no way I could ever watch this again, without having nightmares. Okay so maybe not nightmares, but some very scary thoughts. If you’re the kinda person who loves psycho killer school girls and fan service to the max, then by all means watch til your heart’s content. Personally I found it to disturbing and intense and the end to ever watch it again.

You have no idea what your getting into

So that’s our list, what’s on yours.

  1. There isn’t a single anime, tv show, movie, whatever that I wouldn’t rewatch for a cool grand. Having said that, here’s my top 3 that would make the decision most painful:

    (3) Death Note
    - I couldn’t even finish watching it the first time around because I had already read the manga before hand. The show completely lives off the “WTF WILL HAPPEN NEXT!?” moment, and once you know what’s coming, the feeling of anticipation is rendered flat.

    (2) Now and Then, Here and There
    - The show is friggin’ fantastic, but it’s just too painful to watch those poor kids get fucked around like that for a second time.

    (1) Grave of the Fireflies
    - Like NTHT, but magnified X10. Unless you’re a mean little shit, it’s hard to enjoy watching these kids get run through the ringer…no matter how well made the movie is.

  2. Wow, you’re right, School days does top the list. O_O

  3. actually, most anime are un-rewatchable for me - except for very few ones. i think the thrill of watching most anime the first time excites. but the second time, it’s meh… kinda like, a joke that was funny before, but not now. but maybe it’s just me.

  4. So, this has absolutely nothing to do with anything, really, but seeing the screencap from School Days reminded me of how confused I was when I kept seeing screencaps of the show - those school uniforms looked like waitress outfits to me, so for the longest time I thought they all worked as waitresses at some restaurant together… and then I was like, “Oh, hey, that’s the school uniform…”

Yeah, see, told you it had nothing to do with anything.

  5. I have to be honest, 1,000 bucks, it would have been an absolutely horrid guro-fest type anime for me not to rewatch. But… off the top of my head, stuff that I have watched and do not care to watch again:

    3) Bleach filler — It’s not technically a whole show, but I’m including it anyway. The Manga portions of Bleach are awesome. I’ve actually watched the Soul Society arc at least 3 or 4 times already. But the Bount Storylines and recent Kasumi-Oji clan storyline are horrid twisting of both the manga’s mythology and the characters themselves. Ishida got most of the character abuse in the bounto storyline, and in this storyline, all of Soul Society has been abused, plus Ichigo. The story not only takes incredible liberties with Soul Society itself, but it doesn’t even fit anywhere within the current Manga Storyline.

If I sit down and do a bleach marathon once the series is over some day, I *will* be skipping both of those filler arcs. I refuse to watch them.

    2) Goshūshō-sama Ninomiya-kun — Way too much fanservice and way too wussy of a lead. It’s not AS Bad as Kanokon (I also couldn’t get much past the first few eps), but it’s up there. One thing I will say is that Hosaka (not THAT Hosaka) is badass, and if they created a sequel based solely around him, I would watch it. the show itself, I have no plans to watch again. Ever. I don’t know if I would have finished the run if I hadn’t been watching it with a friend.

    1) Shakugan no Shana Season 2 — While the second half of the season picked up immensely, the first half erased most of the character development from the whole 1st season, then dragged on and on with a repetitive, stagnant love quadrangle story that ate up 5-6 episodes. The second half had some cool battle scenes and interesting mythology, but not enough to make me suffer through the rest of the botched story ever again.

  6. Honorable Mention(s) Escaflowne the Movie. Tis a good show. The music is great and the animation is excellent. Still, it doesn’t hold a candle to the actual series. Now it was just bore me to tears.
Evagelion: Death and Rebirth - I watch the movie before I even saw any of the series… needless to say, I was mentally scarred having seen that movie.

#3 - Sola - Great series! I love it until the last few episodes. The ending kinda ruined it for me.
    #2 - Gundum: Char’s Counter Attack - … the angst killed me.
#1 - X/1999 the Movie - “FUUUUMAAAAAA!!!!” I made the mistake of buying this movie before I really knew what it was about (or based on). Everybody dies so the world may be saved. I’m sure the actual series is a WHOLE alot better, but this one made the idea of self-inflicted wounds look attractive.

  7. I personally like school days and have read the manga and played the game as well.(watched SD like 3 times)
anyways 1. Lucky Star-Boring pointless jabber with very little moments that are funny.
    2.Gundam Seed Destiny-reasons above.
3.Canvas2-was good until they went and did a 180 for the ending making me feel like I wasted my time.
and for an added bonus Ichigo100%-I think everyone knows why.(Can’t belive manga outcome was decided by a fucking poll)
