Code Geass EP 14 vs Macross Frontier EP 14

We decided to scrap our regular feature of doing Highlights & Lowlights of Macross Frontier in favor of doing a weekly pudding fight to the death between the two behemoth series of the 08 season Code Geass R2 & Macross Frontier.  So get a strap on and prepare for battle. {Yes! - snuck that last line past the QC department}

Story

Macross Frontier

Shouldn’t Geass be the one that leaves you confused after watching an episode? Well MF seems to be up to the challenge of dishing out the mind f&^@ on viewers. Overall this MF episode didn’t have as many plot advancements as Geass EP 14, but what was revealed left us scratching our heads.  Was the Vajra that was controlling the mother ship Ranka’s mother?  Well not really Ranka’s mother, but built from her mother’s DNA or something.  If this is the case then that means Ranka has the same DNA and can control Vajra like her mama.  Which means that Vajra are the creation of people who are a Zentradi x Human mix?

Then there was the whole thing about Brera rescuing Ranka but lying that to the rest of the crew that we was from the Galaxy fleet.  And while this is happening Commander Bad Haircut is smiling all evil like. Why would they set off the Galaxy eater in one episode, but then help Frontier in the next episode.  Was the galaxy eater all done to off Sheryl?

Prediction: Commander Bad Haircut is behind or connected to this whole thing with the Vajra.

Code Geass R2

Charles, CC, VV and Marianne were all horse riding buddies!? What the hell!? And VV is making creepy little Geass kids in an assembly line? So weird.  Even with all this the thing we were most surprised by is how Lelouch was able stand being near freakin Rolo after he off’d Shirley. Guess he couldn’t have killed Rolo just like that because of his time-stopping-esque Geass. But the little prick still survives in the end.  The best possible death for Rolo in our opinion would be Nunnally to off him.

Most disappointing moment of the episode was VV showing up Siegfried, a rehash mecha from R1. Have him show up in Seigfried V2 or something.

Most surprising moment was Suzaku going all evil like and using refrain on Lelouch.  Man this is going to mess Lelouch even more seeing Kallen fight along side Suzaku.

Does this Mean CC is the sexiest 50 year old ever?

Mecha Action

Going to give this to MF 14 as well.  Honestly though Macross Frontier will be tough to beat in this category when the episode has the flag ship Frontier fortress transforming.  It’s still impressive to see every time, because it happens so seldom - once every 7 episodes at the moment.  Also Macross wins because of the quality of the action scenes.  Unbelievably animated again. The battle scenes looks so damn good that you have to wonder how good a MF movie or OVA could look if they ever did one.

Favourite scene from this episode has be when Alto blows the crap out of the Vajra with the Reaction Weapons (read: Nukes).  War is ugly but Macross Frontier makes it oh so beautiful.

Fangasmic

Having Princess Cornelia back on the scene is pretty cool, she was one of our favourite characters from R1. And we are excited at the possibility of her joining forces with Lelouch.  How the hell does Lelouch explain that whole killing your sister thing - after all he still was the one who shot Euphie.  And also with the number of ex Britanians on his side, should he change the name of his country from the United States of Japan to New Britannia?  Makes sense because even his underlings are starting to call him ‘Majesty’.

Code Geass also gets an extra point for putting Kallen in a gorgeous dress.  Asuna wants to buy the dress and Kira wants to by the figure of Kallen in that dress.
