In the world of anime there are bad-good deaths and good-bad deaths. A good-bad death is when a character you don’t expect to die bites the bullet, so the death is a surprise and really adds to the quality of a show (good). But the character that dies is someone who is an all around good person, and probably didn’t deserve to die compared to some others in the cast (bad). You know you’ve encountered one of these deaths if hours / days after watching the episode the death occurs it’s still on your mind. You keep thinking – “I can’t believe they killed ___ off”. Or if you walk around like a sad panda all day.

A bad-good death is basically the opposite, its when a character you hate dies, but does so in a very lame or predictable way that you can’t even enjoy it.

Grace’s death while the most violent this week, was not the most epic

Random Anime Award for Best Good-Bad Death of the Week: Shirley – Code Geass Ep 13.

Really could there have been any other winner this week? It was an epic death as we’ve seen all season. It probably wasn’t on the scale of Euphie’s death from R1, but that’s only because of the way Shirley got taken out. Rolo? Really? Freaking Rolo is the one that kills her? Rolo – OMFG I love my Onii-Chan Rolo? That’s definitely not as epic as Euphie being shot by Lelouch. But this was a death with a lot of impact.

This little prick better get his come-up-ins

What makes Shirley’s death so heavy is the fact she basically died in Lelouch’s arms after finally telling him how she felt about him. Maybe unrealistically - Shirley fell back in love with Lelouch even after remembering that he was responsible for her father’s death. She was really just an innocent victim that just happened to fall in love with the wrong guy.

Raise your hand if you almost cried during this scene

This death will also have a heavy impact on Lelouch. This is the first significant loss Lelouch has faced since beginning his war against Britannia. How will Lelouch handle Shirley’s loss is the big question? He really can go one of a few ways from this. He could go completely in the tank and be basically bed ridden for the next few days, meaning that the Black Knights would be by themselves. He could shift the blame to Suzaku, thinking that if Suzaku could not protect Shirley then he can’t protect Nunnally. So he makes another move to get back Nannally. Or he could refocus and make plans to get Kallen back.

Guess he deserved it for killing Euphie???

Remember Kallen? We haven’t seen any scenes of our warrior goddess in a while. So one could surmise that since Shirley is out of the picture that things are now being lined up for Lelouch x Kallen to finally occur. You could say that, but is also possible Kallen is going to end with Suzaku now. Granted it would only happen if Kallen switched teams, but anything is possible. This is Geass after all, and we did predict this was a possibility a long time ago.

Oh and it goes without saying that we were wrong with one of our main predictions (Lelouch x Kallen).

We’ll Miss Shirley
