“Oh My F(*@ing God!” - Those were Kira’s words at the end of episode 13.
Some needs to tell Ranka to stop licking the frogs
30 Second Summary
- Alto and Ranka get closer to each other while stranded on Gallia together - How? Doing what all girls do - Ranka starts braiding Alto’s hair.
- Alto and Ranka share some more intimate moments before Ranka gets kidnapped by the Vajra.
- It seems the reason Sheryl has been sick is because her manager has been drugging her.
- Ranka wakes up in the Vajra nest where mama Vajra starts attacking her. Luckily Brera comes to the rescue. But He and Alto are unable to save Ranka and she gets swallowed up a green bubble.
- Grace activates the dimension eater which causes a massive fold to open up and swallow up the entire planet of Gallia 4. Everything goes boom! In a bigger explosion than when Namek blew up in DBZ.

Grace was a bad guy? We’ll at least one of our predictions is right so far
Kira’s Highlights
You know a few weeks ago when Macross Faced off against Code Geass, and Geass won. Well we may need to change the final score after this episode.
This is probably my favorite episode from any anime series this spring. And that’s saying something, because their have been some really awesome episodes of Kurenai, Toshokan Sensou & Nijuu-Mensou no Musume.
I’m still drooling over the animation quality of this episode. Everything was stunning, not just the battle scenes. I thought one of the best looking scenes was some of the quiet moments that Alto and Ranka shared. But god damn the animation in final planet eating sequence was astonishing. From the moment Alto & Brera started fighting the Vajra to the frantic escape by Alto at the end, I think I must have blinked only three times. I didn’t want to miss a frame of the action. Hands down MF is the most beautifully animated series this season.
Probably the best Ranka’s been animated
This episode also had more insane plot development than an episode of Geass. First we discover the Macross in ruins was the one Ranka’s family was on. We also get somewhat confirmation that Brera is Ranka’s brother (we’ll a cyborg version of her brother. The song he plays on his harmonica is the same one Ranka sings. We next discover that Grace has been drugging Sheryl for some reason. Then there is the whole - Vajra are artificial life forms that have been nesting in the Macross. And the piece de resistance - the greatest weapon in the world of anime - the dimension eater. We basically got 5 episodes worth of plot development in one, and my head is still spinning.
The pacing was spectacular as well. I watched this episode 3 times to make sure I didn’t miss anything because there was a lot of stuff going on. It was such a roller coaster ride. One minute you think they’ll save this Ranka this episode, and the next minute shes glowing purple and activating the vajra. This episode answered a lot of questions and brought to light an entire set of new questions.
You know what the best part is? Episode 14 looks even better.
This episode could convert mecha haters into mecha fan boys / girls
Asuna’s Lowlights
You know what? There are no lowlights this week. Macross Frontier Episode 13 was pretty much a perfect anime episode.
Does Brera have Imouto complex? Seems that way
Final Thoughts: None - our brains all mushy from the overload of goodness.
