Ranka wins round 2 as Sheryl goes on the Disabled List (sorry for the use of a sporto term - but Kira’s a sporto)

MF Episode 13: Return of the Love Triangle

30 Second Summary

  • Sheryl Arrives on Gallia to perform for the Zentrandi. But she collapses from a fever and is unable to preform.
  • The extremist Zentrandi use that as an excuse and begin to attack the moderate Zentrandi.
  • As the reader T_I predicted weeks ago, Ranka rushes to the scene and saves everyone just in time with the power of Song.
  • Well not everyone is moved by her song. The leader of the rebels apparently doesn’t like Jpop and tries to kill Ranka, but her bf (ok, potential bf) Alto owns the fool, and he dies.
  • Ranka and Alto crash on the planet on their way home and discover the wreckage of the original SDF Macross.

The Stars don’t shine on Ranka… Ranka shines on the stars.

Kira’s Highlights

I loved this episode - it was a signature Macross episode. It had mecha action mixed with some great singing performances.

Ranka - she arrived on the scene just in time and defused a hostile situation. Call her Super Peace Keeper Ranka.

Interstellar Flight - that’s the name we believe of the song Ranka performed. And it was stellar. Ranka’s cute dance that accompanied the song just adds to the win. Granted its no Hare Hare Yukai, but we liked it. If you want to learn the dance steps check this out.

Alto going into “SEED” mode. Okay not quite, but it was good to see him put the emoness behind and start kicking ass. Now if we could only get the guy to start liking girls.

Just when it looked as if Sheryl was winning the race to get into Alto’s tight pants, Ranka strikes back. From the way Episode 13 is shaping up it looks as Ranka and Alto will be stranded together, exactly how Hikaru and Misa were stranded together in the original series. And if you remember correctly, up until that point Lynn Minmay was the one who was hooking up with Hikaru. Then Misa got stranded with him and hopped into his pants and Lynn was pushed out of the picture. Will Ranka and Alto hook up in the same way - not likely. Misa and Hikaru were older and much more mentally mature than Ranka and Alto.

Cue the ominous music… brings back memories doesn’t it

Asuna’s Lowlights

Not much not to like about episode 12.

The only thing I didn’t like is how the rebel Zendtrandi leader died too quickly. He looked as if he would have made a good antagonist. He even had Alto’s style blue hair. And even though he was obviously the puppet and not the puppet master, I’m kinda bummed to see him die so quickly.

In the battle of blue hair, Alto wins … but he would totally get pwned by Marge Simpson

Final Thoughts: A stellar episode that invokes memories of the Macross Do you Remember Love.
